Sealcoating FAQs

Do you have additional questions or concerns? Give us a call – we’d love to talk to you!
What services do you offer at Ideal Seal?
We are proud to offer comprehensive asphalt repair and sealcoating for both homes and commercial spaces, including:
- Asphalt sealcoating

- Asphalt crack filling
- Asphalt driveway repair
- Apron repair
- And more!
What does asphalt sealcoating do for my driveway or parking lot?
Asphalt sealcoating is one of the best ways to protect your investment. When done regularly as part of your maintenance plan, asphalt sealcoating:
- Protects your asphalt from gas and oil stains
- Keeps sun-damage at bay
- Melts snow and ice more quickly
- Prevents corrosion from de-icing chemicals
- Provides waterproofing for the surface of your asphalt
- Enhances your property’s curb appeal
- And more!
How often should I sealcoat my driveway or parking lot?
Sealcoating is an essential part of maintaining your asphalt. It should be done 12-18 months after your asphalt is installed and every 2-3 years after that.
How do I know whether I need asphalt sealcoating or asphalt repair?
While sealcoating works beautifully as part of a preventative maintenance plan, it cannot fix cracked, eroded, or neglected asphalt. It also won’t even out uneven or low spots in your asphalt.
To take care of these foundational issues, we first repair your broken asphalt and then sealcoat, rather than trying to “hide” the damage with a quick topcoat. We’ll help you decide what your driveway or parking lot needs during a FREE, no-obligation consultation. Contact us now to schedule yours!
What does the sealcoating process involve?
When sealcoating your asphalt, our expert technicians:
- Power-edge and power-clean the area to prepare it for sealcoating;
- Fill in the joints and cracks with quality hot crack sealant;
- Apply primer to prevent oil seepage;
- Hand-edge the entrance or parking lot with our high-quality sealer;
- and sealcoat the rest of the area effectively and efficiently.
Once I choose Ideal Seal, how long before you get to work on my project?
We work hard to get your job done efficiently and effectively. In most cases, we can be there the very next day (Minnesota weather allowing!).
How long should we keep vehicles off of our newly seal-coated surface?
It’s best to give your new sealcoating 48 hours to cure before driving vehicles on it.
(We understand that this is difficult, especially when sealcoating a business entry or parking lot, so at Ideal Seal, we work around your schedule to cause the least disruption possible!)
Will sealcoating take care of stains on my driveway or parking lot?
Basic sealcoating takes care of most of the basic stains on your current driveway or parking lot. However, if the stains are extensive, we have the tools and expertise to perform repairs on those areas before adding the new sealcoating!
